Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (June 28, 2017) – Travis Rilat nearly netted a top-10 finish last Saturday during the 46th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup finale at Skagit Speedway.

Rilat, who had preliminary finishes of 17th and sixth, respectively, ran in the top 10 until a late-race restart relegated him and the Richard Saumure owned team to an 11th-place result.

“It wasn’t our best performance,” Rilat said. “We were able to get in the show on Saturday, which is what you want to do. We just never got the car going the way it needed to all weekend.”

Rilat kicked off the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader on Thursday by charging from sixth to third place in a heat race. However, contact with another competitor in a qualifier relegated him to a seventh-place finish. That sent him to a B Main, in which a runner-up result earned a transfer into the back of the main event.

Rilat picked up a pair of positions to finish 17th.

His best result came on Friday when the team placed second in a heat race before winning a qualifier. That lined Rilat up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We just didn’t get going,” he said. “We salvaged what we could.”

Rilat battled for a top five throughout the race before ending sixth.

The two preliminary finishes garnered enough overall points to lock Rilat into the 10th starting position for Saturday’s main event.

“We ran ninth forever,” he said. “There wasn’t much passing all race. Everyone was the same speed around the top. We had a red flag with a few laps to go. On the restart I got balled up and lost two spots.”

Rilat, who capped the weekend with an 11th-place finish, said he is unsure of his next race.
