LEDUC, Alb. (July 6, 2017) Hard work and patience is starting to pay off for Skylar Gee, as the Brodix Rookie of the Year contender posted a career best fifth place finish with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network to open up the Brownfield Classic at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Starting off the night with a Heat Race win to lock into Friday’s redraw, Skylar advanced to finish fifth after starting eight in the 25 lap preliminary A-Feature.

“Getting a top five was awesome. It would have been nice to get fourth and get locked in, but I kind of gave up the spot to [Roger] Crockett when I slid off the bottom, but it happens,” said Skylar of the fifth place finish. “It was really good though being in Washington with a lot of our sponsors there and everyone around.”

Drawing the second row of the Heat Race on Saturday night, things didn’t go the way Skylar had planned; putting the Carlan Services/Shark Racing Engines No. 99 starting sixth in the first B-Feature.

“We struggled early for some reason. We really hadn’t changed much from Friday, but after that, it was clear we needed to do something so we made a bunch of changes for the B-Main and it was a lot better.”

Moving up three spots to advance to the A-Feature, Skylar was able to charge from 21st to 10th before all was said and done.

“We made more changes before the A-Main, and it worked in our favor where we were really able to move forward,” said Gee. “Overall, the weekend was great. I really did learn a lot starting that far back on getting through traffic and staying on the lead lap when you do have to start that far back.”

Back to the scene of his 2016 Brodix ASCS Frontier Region Championship, Skylar will take on the 2nd annual Grizzly Nationals at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. on Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8.

“I love racing at Belgrade. “We’ve had a lot of success there. We were pretty fast last year, just didn’t have the right engine program, but this year we’ve got Shark Racing Engines so I’m excited to see what we can do.”

With the return to Montana this weekend, and South Dakota next weekend, Skylar would like to thank Strong’s Crane Services in Billings, Mont. and the Liebig family in Rapid City, S.D. for their continue support of the No. 99 team.
