Inside Line Promotions – AMARILLO, Texas (June 11, 2018) – Travis Rilat earned his first podium finish of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com season last Saturday a night after nearly capturing his first win of the year during the Speedweek opener.

Rilat and BDS Motorsports kicked off the annual Speedweek on Friday at West Texas Speedway in Lubbock, Texas, where advancing from fourth to third place in a heat race netted Rilat a spot in the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 1 during the random draw to garner the pole position for the A Main.

Rilat quickly took the lead and set a blistering pace out front. Traffic was a difficult task and near the midpoint of the 30-lap race Rilat began to struggle finding grip. A couple of laps later he lost the top spot in traffic before dropping a couple more positions in subsequent laps.

“We got the lead right away, but the track used up tires quickly,” he said. “About midway through the race I really began to struggle. Once I got passed I tried searching around and just got in a bad spot.”

Unfortunately, the night ended early as Rilat got upside down in turn two with approximately 10 laps remaining. He led the first 17 laps and was running in the top five, but the incident relegated him to a 22nd-place result.

The team rebounded the following night at Route 66 Motor Speedway, where a long rain delay made the track difficult to maneuver on during the heat race. Rilat finished fourth, which lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the A Main.

Just like the previous night, once the green flag waved he was on a mission. It didn’t take long for Rilat to work into the top 10 and he was challenging for a top-five position near the midpoint of the race.

“The track was pretty narrow so passing could be difficult,” he said. “A lot of drivers would get tight and push up the track. I started to enter high and diamond off the exit of the corners. That allowed me to get underneath them and also gave me a great run down the straightaways.”

Rilat advanced into third place before the checkered flag was waved. It marked his third top five of the season and it gives the team momentum entering the next Speedweek race on Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Rilat has posted at least one top-10 finish during each of the last 13 years.

The remaining Speedweek shows are Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; and Saturday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan.
