Mallett Rebounds From Tough Iowa Swing With Three Top-15 Finishes

Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (Sept 3, 2019) – Jordon Mallett advanced 19 feature positions during three nights of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action highlighted by two 11th-place outings and a 13th-place run.

“After the last trip to Iowa for the Nationals at Knoxville I was really frustrated,” he said. “So to come forward each night and have some good runs was encouraging to say the least.”

Mallett began the weekend on Friday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, by starting third in his heat race and finishing fifth. He then advanced from fourth to second in a B Main before capping the night by charging from 20th to 11th.

“I got bottled up on the initial start in the heat and got in the marbles,” he said. “Come feature-time we were really moving, but the track rubbered up and I didn’t react quick enough. I think ultimately we had a top-10 car.”

Next up on the schedule was the opening night of a doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway. Mallett maneuvered from fifth to fourth place in a heat race and from seventh to fifth in a qualifier. He was forced to run a B Main, which he won after leading the distance to transfer into the main event.

Like Friday night’s feature, Mallett utilized restarts to pick up positions and he ultimately ended up with another 11th-place finish.

“They got so much rain earlier in the day that the track was so narrow and hard to pass on,” he said. “We always went forward every time we got on track, but we were starting too far back to really capitalize on it. But the car had speed and we made the best of it.”

The weekend concluded on Sunday with Mallett powering from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. However, fortune would change in the qualifier when he contacted another car while battling for the fourth position and spun out. Mallett rallied to finish eighth, but was sent to a B Main. He won that from fourth before closing the night with a charge from 17th to 13th.

“We were really good in our heat race and I was looking forward to the rest of the night,” he said. “We were really sitting pretty in the qualifier and I was just minding my own and I got spun out. Until that I was one of the few cars who could move forward so that really killed our night. We made it in the show anyway and made the best of it, but ultimately we moved forward all week and that’s promising.”

The ASCS National Tour is off this week so Mallett is looking over schedules for any potential racing plans.
