Perfect weather and big donations highlight 2013 Steve King Foundation Golf Tournament

Bryan Hulbert – ROCKWALL, Texas (October 17, 2013) A record 33 teams consisting of 132 players partook in the seventh annual Steve King Foundation Golf Tournament of Champions presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and Hoosier Tire Southwest on Thursday, October 17, with the four-man team of Jason Davis, Bobby Ruffin, Blake Hodges, and Terry Carter earning the tournament victory.

On a day that could only be described as perfect, it was nothing but blue skies and a whisper of a breeze as teams began play shortly after Noon.

While the 18 holes of Golf took up nearly six hours of the day, the ultimate goal was again to raise funds for the Steve King Foundation and once again, the racing community did not disappoint as $25,363 was raised for the foundation’s continued work in the helping of racers and their families in times of need.

Bidding wars during the charity auction were interesting at times with Racecar parts and Golf accessories going from prices that ranged from $125 to nearly $2,000 at times as the racing community dug deep to continue helping a foundation that has given so much back to those who find themselves in unsure times.

A major part of the night’s charity auction, that was responsible for nearly half of all the money raised, was a custom Shotgun which fetched $5,600 initially. An additional $5,190 was donated after the fact for 17 year old Makaelea Schkade who was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2012.

Plans are already in the works for the 2014 edition of the Steve King Foundation Golf Tournament of Champions. For more information on the many works of the Steve King Foundation, or to donate, log onto at http://stevekingfoundation.org.
