It’s only fitting in the first race contested by the new ASCS Gunsmoke Region that a new winner should emerge, and New Mexico’s Ryder McCutcheon was the one who rolled into Tumbleweed Classic Victory Lane at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday night.
The second member of the McCutcheon family to top an ASCS Regional event, Ryder’s father, Kyle McCutcheon, has won in ASCS Southwest and ASCS 305 competition.
In pursuit of Kyler Johnson at the start, the No. 45x outdueled Jeremy Campbell for the point, which he held until Lap 10 when a mechanical issue sidelined the Quinter, Kan. driver as McCutchon was starting to apply pressure.
Moving the No. 5 to the point, McCutchon ripped the cushion around the three-eighths-mile oval to a straightaway advantage before a late race caution for Austyn Gossel.
Holding off Jeremy Campbell as the race resumed, McCutcheon pulled away by 1.316-seconds for the night’s $2,000 score. Bryant Wiedeman crossed third with Zach Blurton and Taylor Milton in fifth.
The ASCS Gunsmoke Region races again at Salt City Speedway on May 22 and at Phillips County Raceway on May 23.
The 2026 season marks the 35th season of competition for the American Sprint Car Series. Spearheaded by the American Sprint Car Series National Tour, the ASCS Nation includes several regional tours, along with cooperating tracks and events throughout the United States.
