Inside Line Promotions – MUSKOGEE, Okla. (May 30, 2022) – Garet Williamson produced a top-10 run at Lake Ozark Speedway and a top-five outing at Thunderbird Speedway last weekend.
The strong results during the two Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events moved the Bryant Paver Motorsports driver to fifth in the championship standings.
“We qualified good, but struggled in our heat race both nights,” he said. “We adapted, overcame and did well in the feature. I think if we can start up front we’ll contend for wins. It’s just about putting a whole night together.”
Friday’s opening round at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., rained out. The team returned to the track on Saturday when Williamson qualified second quickest in his group. A sixth-place result in a heat race relegated him to the B Main, which he won from fourth to transfer into the main event.
“I knew we had a good car and I think we did what we were supposed to do by winning the B Main,” he said. “I felt good in the A Main. We were pretty good wherever we went. We steadily gained positions throughout the race. We just started too far back to be a contender.”
Williamson continued to move forward in the feature by hustling from 17th to eighth. It was tied for the second-most positions gained.
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Thunderbird Speedway, where Williamson made his debut. He timed in third quickest in his group before placing fourth in a heat race. The team shined in the A Main, rallying from 12th to a season-best ASCS National Tour result of fourth.
“They reworked the track before the A Main and it ended up being a lot of fun,” he said. “We were really good. We passed all of those cars on a big half-mile track without a lot of cautions. We had a late yellow and I slid two for one going from fifth to third on the first restart, but we had a red come out so I went back to fifth. I had to pass a guy for fourth again and he saw how it worked and took my line. Luckily we got the position by the end of the race.
“We’re making ourselves work way too hard in the feature. We’re learning and at least we’re not finishing back there where we are starting, but our goal is to be winning races and earning podiums and we need to start toward the front to be able to do that.”
