Inside Line Promotions – WAKEENEY, Kan. (July 4, 2022) – Bryant Paver Motorsports driver Garet Williamson picked up a pair of top-five finishes last weekend during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tripleheader.
A fourth-place finish on Friday at Boone County Raceway was followed by runs from 11th to fifth on Saturday and from 20th to eighth on Sunday at WaKeeney Speedway.
“I think Friday night we had a really good shot at winning if our front nose wing didn’t break,” Williamson said. “That really cost us. We had a really good car all night. The other two nights were just average nights.”
Williamson set quick time during qualifying on Friday before he hustled from fourth to win a heat race. He started the feature on the inside of the second row and battled for the final spot on the podium throughout the feature before being passed on the last lap.
“The nose wing broke pretty early,” he said. “We don’t know what caused it or why it did it. It kept pushing down further and further and by the end of the night it was laying on the hood. I couldn’t enter the corners as hard as everyone else so it really hampered me. I knew when we had a late caution we were in trouble and Blake (Hahn) was able to get us for third at the end.”
The team ventured to WaKeeney Speedway on Saturday for the first night of a doubleheader. Williamson timed in second quickest in his group before placing fourth in a heat race. He capped the night by rallying from 11th to fifth for his 14th top five of the season.
“It was tough to pass,” he said. “I passed a few cars early. The second-to-last restart I passed two cars going into turn one when I stuck the bottom better.”
Williamson was tied for the third-most positions gained on Saturday. He stepped that up on Sunday by passing the second-most cars in the feature after rallying from 20th to eighth.
“I think we had a better car than that, but the track was locked down rubber from Lap 5 on,” he said. “There wasn’t much we could have done more. It was my fault we had to start that far deep though after I made a mistake in the heat race that put us at the back. It was good to salvage what we did.”
Williamson plans to race this Thursday at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, with the POWRi 410 Outlaw Sprint League and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa.
