Williamson Earns Career-Best ASCS National Result Followed by Best-Ever Knoxville Run

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 19, 2021) – Garet Williamson enjoyed a career-best type of weekend with a pair of stout performances.

The Bryant Paver Motorsports driver captured a career-best Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour result of second on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway before he posted a career-best 11th-place finish at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.

“We’ve had speed all year, but we just have had some unfortunate circumstances,” he said. “It was nice to put together good nights.”

Williamson was strong at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., where he won a heat race on Friday after lining up fourth. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 2 to start the A Main on the outside of the front row.

“We were really good,” he said. “We went in there knowing we’d have a fast car. We moved forward and won the heat race. Then we led some laps early in the feature. We were a little too tight in traffic. We got to battle with (Matt) Covington, Blake (Hahn) and (J.J.) Hickle. We were throwing some sliders.”

Williamson led the first seven laps before falling to second. However, he remained in contention for his first career ASCS National Tour win until a late-race caution removed traffic and gave the leader a clear track.

“We had a green-white-checkered finish,” he said. “Prior to that I had pulled up to Covington’s rear bumper. Another lap and I probably would have thrown a slider. The caution wasn’t what I needed, but it was nice to get a podium with them and be that fast.”

Williamson continued to show speed on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where he qualified 20th quickest before winning a heat race from the second starting position. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row in the main event.

“I didn’t qualify very well,” he said. “I probably should have tried hitting the bottom. However, we were really good the rest of the night. It was the best I felt all year there. We passed some cars and were into the top 10 at one point. I probably needed to move around a little bit more. We had a restart and we all got bunched up. I ended up losing a couple of positions so we finished 11th.

“We want to try to get there a couple more times before the 360 Knoxville Nationals if we can.”

The racing plan for this week is a Sprint Invaders race on Wednesday at East Moline Speedway in East Moline, Ill., before returning to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
