Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 18, 2017) – Harli White is slated to make her final start of the season in Texas this weekend when she tackles the 44th annual Winter Nationals at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite.
The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader is Friday and Saturday at one of her favorite tracks.
“Devil’s Bowl is a very unique track,” she said of the half-mile oval. “We’ve been on a lot of big tracks this year so I feel like we’re comfortable going into this weekend. We’re pretty locked into our points position so we’re going in with a different mindset. I drive the race car really hard and sometimes it hurts me because I don’t step back and contemplate the best move. We’re going to focus on getting more consistent for next year.”
Her career-best finish at the track is a runner-up result in 2015. She placed ninth at the oval earlier this season.
White is coming off the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires, which was held last weekend at I-30 Speedway.
She opened the ASCS Mid-South Region tripleheader on Thursday by placing third in a heat race before maneuvering from eighth to fifth place in a qualifier. That relegated her to a B Main, in which she battled for a transfer position until the closing laps.
“I smoked the wall getting into turn one and broke the Jacob’s Ladder,” she said. “I couldn’t turn the car and went off the track. That ended my night early.”
White, who endured a DNF, returned to the bullring on Friday, when an eighth-place finish in a heat race relegated her toward the back of a C Main. She charged from 13th to fifth, but narrowly missed a transfer into a B Main.
The weekend concluded on Saturday. White rallied from sixth to third place in a heat race. That lined her up on the outside of the fourth row in a B Main. She battled just outside the top five throughout the race before ending eighth.
“I just needed to put together more consistent laps all weekend,” she said. “I put myself in the wrong situations at the wrong time and didn’t make the best decisions. We were fast all weekend long. We had good lap times and the car showed it. I just need to work on consistency on my end.”
