Wednesdays with Wayne – Fred Brownfield Classic this Weekend!

The Fred Brownfield Classic awaits the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series at Grays Harbor Speedway in Elma, Washington this weekend. Wayne Johnson and the Two-C Racing team are looking forward to the two-night event. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma driver has the car working well, he just needs a little luck. A flat tire while staging last Friday night at Skagit Speedway’s Dirt Cup put him behind the 8-ball, but he roared back to a sixth place finish in Saturday’s finale.

After a Thursday washout, things started on Friday at Skagit. “We were the quickest car in hot laps by three-tenths of a second on Friday,” says Wayne. “So the car is running well again. We just didn’t have much luck last weekend.”

With though track conditions, Wayne went from eighth to fifth in his heat, and won his Qualifier. That was enough to start eighth in the main event. He would never get to his starting spot. “We were out there rolling around waiting to line up and the right rear went flat,” he says. “We had to go to the work area, change the tire and start dead last on a track that was rutty and treacherous.”

With plenty of carnage on track, he was not able to avoid all of it. “We worked our way back up through there and then got caught up in a wreck,” says Wayne. “We started in the back again and ended up eleventh.”

The track was in great condition for Saturday’s finale. Wayne won his heat, and then went from fifth to third in the Qualifier. He would start the feature ninth. “We got a really bad start,” he says. “We were back in 12th or 13th early on. We were able to work our way back through there to sixth. The track was in great shape.”

Wayne is excited about getting to Grays Harbor Friday. “The car is way better than where it was,” he says. “We just need things to go our way a little. We’re looking forward to getting to Grays Harbor. We’ve had some great runs there over the years.”

The team is hungry for a win, and ready to get back in the ASCS point chase. “We need to come back with a vengeance,” says Wayne. “We’re getting behind here. We only have so many races left on this trip, and then we’re hitting the home stretch of the season.”
