The month of July has nearly come and gone. Entering the final week of the month, a trio of regions will be in action this week.
Canyon
The American Sprint Car Series lone non-wing division is back in action at Canyon Speedway Park with the Summer Slam. With the ASCS Canyon Regions point’s battle as close as it can get with R.J. Johnson leading by a single marker over Charles Davis Jr. the need for a win in greater than ever for Johnson. Still within striking distance, Dalten Gabbard currently sits third with Bruce St. James and Rick Ziehl making up the top five in regional point standings.
In their past five visits to Canyon Speedway Park, there have been five different winners with Charles Davis Jr., Jeremy Sherman, Dalten Gabbard, Colby Copeland, and Michael Bonneau making up the list of first prize earners.
Events at Canyon Speedway Park are scheduled for Saturday July 28th with racing beginning at 7pm.
Sooner / Lone Star
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region will see a pair of nights this weekend. Racing in a standalone event on Friday July 27th, the Sooner Region will make their third appearance of the year at Sapulpa’s Creek County Speedway.
Seth Bergman utilized an off weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour to pick up the win in the regions first visit of the year in May. On their return stop it was past Sooner Region Champion Sean McCleland who broke into victory lane.
Saturday July 28th will move down to the road to Lawton Speedway for the series second trip to the Edwards owned facility where Danny Jennings took the win in May. Saturday’s event will also see the culmination of the Oil Medics Red River Rumble. Partnered with the Oil Medics Lone Star Region for round four of the bonus series, a $500 bonus awaits the winner of the Red River Rumble.
After being tied with Travis Rilat entering Cowtown this past weekend, Matt Covington has fallen to second after suffering a DNF during the night’s feature event. Jumping from fourth to the lead, Andy Shouse holds a slim 7 point advantage in the Rumble. Martin Edwards was the biggest mover going from tenth to third with Joe Wood Jr. falling to fourth after suffering a DNS at Cowtown. Patrick Stasa currently sits fifth in the Oil Medics Red River Rumble Standings.
2012 marks the 21st year of sanctioning Sprint Cars races with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series. Headlining with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV, the American Sprint Car Series boasts the largest number of registered drivers thanks to its 10 regions and new 305 region.
