Tankersley Sweeps ASCS Gulf South Event for Third Straight Race

Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (July 31, 2018) – Channin Tankersley is enjoying one of his most dominant streaks during his sprint car career.

The Old School Racing pilot captured his third straight ASCS Gulf South Region feature victory last Saturday at Battleground Speedway. Even more impressive is that it marked his third straight race of sweeping the night by winning both a heat race and the main event.

“Any time you can win it’s a confidence booster,” he said. “We just have to keep trying to make the right calls off the track and then I have to be smart on the track.”

The three-race winning streak is his best since capturing three consecutive regional events in 2016.

“We take the stuff at the shop pretty meticulously,” he said. “We focus on our basic maintenance and we go over everything. We try to stay on top of everything the best we can. If you look at our past five years or so we haven’t had a lot of DNFs because of parts failures. That says something about our maintenance program. It’s about taking care of your stuff and being thorough.”

That’s only half the battle as the driver has to make the right decisions on the track, which Tankersley has continued to do.

“You have to be as smart as you can,” he said. “I think this is my 13th year racing sprint cars. The more you do it the more you learn. Sometimes charging hard and putting the car in places it shouldn’t be isn’t the best. You try being cautious, but to still charge hard.”

Tankersley will take this weekend off before going for his fourth straight ASCS Gulf South Region win at Battleground Speedway on Aug. 11.
