Inside Line Promotions – CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Sept. 4, 2018) – Channin Tankersley garnered a pair of podium finishes last weekend during an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader to get one step closer to his second championship.
The Old School Racing driver, who is riding a seven-race podium streak with the series, owns a 129-point lead in the championship standings with only two races remaining.
While the consistent weekend was a positive, Tankersley was frustrated with how the car handled during the two-day event at South Texas Speedway.
“We just weren’t very good all weekend,” he said. “We went there with our baseline where we normally start and we just couldn’t get going like we wanted to. We were trying to adjust toward that and never hit the nail on the head. The car was decent. There were just a couple of cars that were better.”
Tankersley advanced from fifth to third place in a heat race on Saturday. That locked him into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 3 to start the main event on the inside of the second row.
“We got up to second a few laps in and rode there the whole race,” he said. “We didn’t have much to contend for the lead.”
The runner-up result was Tankersley’s ninth top five of the season.
The weekend concluded the following night and it began on a strong note with Tankersley winning a heat race after starting fifth. However, the car was a tick off in the feature and the track wasn’t conducive to passing so Tankersley ended third.
“We were on top of the track the whole time,” he said. “We were just off a bit the whole weekend.”
Tankersley will take this weekend off before the next ASCS Gulf South Region race, which is Sept. 15 at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.
