Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Oct. 10, 2017) – It has been more than three months since Channin Tankersley has competed.

There was one night of testing during that time, but it ended early. Therefore, Tankersley will be fresh entering the 30th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this Thursday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. He will pilot a sprint car for Bruce Griffith during the ASCS Mid-South Region tripleheader that runs through Saturday.

“A little break never hurts, but it’s been quite a while since we’ve really raced,” Tankersley said. “I think this is the least amount of races we’ve done in a season up to this point. The biggest thing is we’re going to do the practice session on Wednesday. We have a new car and fresh engine. We’re pretty much going to get me acclimated and also get a little time on the car.”

Tankersley last competed at I-30 Speedway in 2015 during the Short Track Nationals. He advanced from fourth to second place during a preliminary night heat race to put himself in a great points position before a crash in the qualifier ended his chances early.

“That place has been really good to me and it’s also been really bad,” he said. “We had a really good shot a couple of years ago to make the A Main, but I got caught up in a crash on my preliminary night and it wiped the car out.”

The year before he won a preliminary night heat race before a crash in a qualifier closed the weekend early.

“We’ve also made the A Main a couple of times,” he said. “We’re going into it with a lot of confidence.”

Tankersley qualified for the Saturday finale in 2013 for the first time. He placed 16th in the feature after being caught up in a crash.

“It’s very easy to get caught up in something at that track,” he said. “It’s a small bullring with a lot of drivers who have the same goal. You need to have a little luck on your side to avoid some of the incidents. If you have luck and a good car you have a shot.”
