Inside Line Promotions – AMARILLO, Texas (June 11, 2018) – Sammy Swindell is off to a strong start during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek.

Swindell, who is driving for A.G. Rains, charged to a podium finish during the Speedweek opener last Friday before he scored his first ASCS National Tour win of the season on Saturday.

“We’ve done pretty much all we can do,” he said. “Sometimes the circumstances because of the draw make a big difference on how the night goes. We’ve been moving forward every race this year. It doesn’t matter where we start we seem to be in the top two or three.”

That was the case on Friday at West Texas Speedway in Lubbock, Texas, where Swindell advanced from fifth to fourth place during a heat race.

“The track was still pretty wet and it was real hard to pass anybody in our heat race,” he said. “That set us up for the 11th starting spot. From there we had a good car for the race. It was still pretty difficult to pass people. We got through most of them. By the time we got to second the race was over.”

Swindell maneuvered from 11th to a third-place result during his debut at the track. It earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The draw was more favorable to Swindell on Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway.

“It worked out for us,” he said. “I knew eventually it would have to, that we’d get some breaks and make it easier on us.”

Swindell advanced from third to second place during a heat race to make the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.

“On the start me and the guy on the outside came together a little bit,” he said. “At that point it broke the right rear shock mount off the arm and it bent the Jacob’s Ladder. When that happens it bounces on the right rear because there’s no shock there to slow anything down. I used some of my experience to get through there. You’re always dealing with something. That’s part of the challenge of the whole thing is being able to figure out how to get the most of what you have at the time.”

Swindell overcame the initial incident to lead the duration of his debut at the bullring. It was his first career ASCS National Tour Speedweek victory.

He enters the next Speedweek race – Tuesday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas – with a 13-point lead in the standings. The remaining Speedweek races are Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; and Saturday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan.
