Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 24, 2015) – It will be a Sprint Car racing fan’s nirvana at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday night as the track hosts the Seventh Annual Steve King Memorial.
The NCRA Sprint Cars will face off with the ASCS Red River Regional forces in Saturday night’s Seventh Annual Steve King Memorial with the URSS Sprint Cars mixing it up with the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars as well atop the 3/8-mile clay oval. Racing action fires off at 7:30 p.m.
It marks the first of two consecutive weekends of Sprint Car action at DCRP, with Saturday’s Steve King Memorial serving as an ideal appetizer for the following weekend’s World of Outlaws Boothill Showdown on July 3-4. The Steve King Memorial event is in memory of the popular Jetmore, KS, racer that lost his life in a 2006 Knoxville Nationals crash. The Steve King Foundation was established after his passing to assist members of the racing family in times of need. C.J. Johnson and Jake Bubak are reigning Steve King Memorial winners with Johnson topping the NCRA vs. ASCS portion and Bubak besting the URSS ranks with a last-corner pass.
Johnson and Kevin Ramey lead their respective 360-ci Sprint Car series into Saturday’s Steve King Memorial with Jed Werner and Luke Cranston atop their 305-ci point charts.
Coming off his first NCRA score of the year on Saturday night in Wichita, Quinter’s Johnson is just 45 points ahead of fellow reigning co-champion Jeremy Campbell. Campbell topped the May 30 NCRA tilt at Dodge City Raceway Park.
Fort Worth’s Kevin Ramey leads the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region forces into the event with a 27-point advantage over Shawn Petersen with past Regional champ Joe Wood, Jr., another point back in third.
While Jed Werner holds the early URSS points lead, Ness City’s Luke Cranston is atop Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car points with a 30-point edge over Zach Blurton.
While C.J. Johnson and reigning URSS champion Bubak reign as defending Steve King Memorial winners, other past winners include Nebraska’s Jack Dover in 2013 and 2009 and Brady Bacon in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Tickets for Saturday’s Seventh Annual Steve King Memorial featuring NCRA vs. ASCS Red River Region Sprint Cars along with URSS vs. Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars are just $20 with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
