CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (March 21th, 2017) Matt Covington came home 6th and 13th this past weekend with the ASCS Lucas Oil National Series at Devils bowls.
Covington had a solid run on Friday which netted a 6th place finish, followed by a 13th place on Saturday after a long night battling through the heat, qualifier, and B-main.
“We had good speed and was able to have strong runs, that put us in the A-main both nights last weekend,” stated Covington. “We had a very good car Friday, and we worked our way up from 13th in the feature, but just ran out of laps trying to chase down the leaders and gain a lock-in. Ending up 6th meant we had to run the heats and qualifier again on Saturday. As luck would have it, when Saturday rolled around, we drew a high pill setting us up for a long night. We were not able to gain many passing points in the heat or qualifier, and had to run the B. We started 3rd and ran 2nd in the B-main, securing a transfer to the A. We went forward in the A and was battling back and forth trying to crack the top-10 but ultimately had to settle for the 13th finishing position. But all in all, it was a good start to the National tour and a solid run on Friday, along with a salvageable finish on Saturday after the challenging hole we started in. This weekend we are going to run with the NCRA at Wichita and Moberly. Tyler’s and my goal is to learn as much as we can and have some podium finishes that will carry over to the next National race.”
