Setters Earns Career-Best ASCS National Tour Result During Grizzly Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 12, 2021) – James Setters produced his career-best result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Friday during the opening round of the Grizzly Nationals hosted by Gallatin Speedway.

Setters started his season opener behind the wheel of his family owned sprint car by winning a heat race from the pole position.

“We drew good and started strong in the heat race,” he said. “I maintained the lead to pick up the win.”

Another good draw in the feature redraw placed Setters on the pole for the main event. Although he lost a handful of positions to finish sixth, Setters was pleased with the performance against some of the top drivers in the country.

“I think it played out pretty good considering it was the first race back in our family car,” he said. “It’s definitely a confidence booster. During the race I was getting passed and falling behind. Then I looked at the guys in front of me and it was national champions and guys leading the national points so I thought it wasn’t that bad.”

A third-place result in a heat race on Saturday locked Setters into the 11th starting position in the main event.

“I went in with confidence,” he said. “In the main event the track went rubber down and we needed to save tires so we pulled off. I had been running the bottom. I sailed it into the middle and it stuck. I felt it took rubber and so I pulled off.

“I was pretty happy with the weekend because I started running better with the national guys.”

Setters, who was credited with a 20th-place result, has a busy week on tap. He is joining the Western Sprint Tour for its Speedweek, which features races on Monday at Coos Bay Speedway in Coos Bay, Ore.; on Tuesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore.; on Wednesday at Sunset Speedway in Banks, Ore.; and on Friday and Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Ore. This week will be Setters’ first time competing at the first three Speedweek tracks.

“I’d like to come out of it with a win, but rolling the car back into the trailer with decent finishes each night is the goal,” he said. “I’ve raced with these drivers and have done some Western Sprint Tour races, but this is my first Speedweek. I’m looking forward to it.”
