Rilat Seeking First Win of Season Entering Texas Sprint Car Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – FORNEY, Texas (April 6, 2017) – Travis Rilat has earned three podium finishes during six races this season, but he has his sights set on a bigger prize.

“I think we could have won three races this year,” he said. “We’ve led three times and haven’t been able to finish so that is certainly our focus.”

Rilat’s next opportunity is this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

“We’re focused on getting our first win of the season and hopefully we can come out of this weekend with a pair of victories,” he said. “We’ve had good success at that track so we can put ourselves in position.”

Rilat recorded a fourth-place result at the track in 2012 and he was leading the main event in 2013 when a problem on the track relegated him to the pits early with a DNF. Rilat then charged from 18th to eighth place during a race in 2014.

“We’ve had some good runs and I think we should have had a win in 2013,” he said. “We got behind the eight ball last year during the qualifiers and that made it really difficult.”

Last year Rilat advanced through a heat race and into the qualifier each night, but he had to run a B Main both times. Rilat claimed the consolation race each night before placing 18th and 14th, respectively, during the main events.

“Starting position was key and we didn’t move forward enough in the qualifiers to put ourselves in a good spot for each main event,” he said. “We have to move forward every time we hit the track.”

“It’s kind of funny how I met (Shark owner) Marc Huson when I went up there to Washington for an ASCS National Tour race a few years ago,” Rilat said. “I was wandering around talking on my cell phone and saw a sprint car next door. I walked over, looked around and introduced myself.

“He’s been a great friend. He was instrumental with a support group for me and my family when I was in the hospital up there. He and his wife helped us out in a hard time. As far as his engine skills go, he’s one of the best in the country. There’s only a handful of great engine builders across the country and I consider him one of the best.”
