Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 7, 2018) – Sometimes a pill draw format works in a driver’s favor and other times it’s an obstacle too large to overcome, which was the case for Travis Rilat last weekend.
Rilat and his BDS Motorsports machine started last in a heat race both nights during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com and United Racing Club doubleheader in Central Pennsylvania.
“Everybody was fast,” he said. “Sometimes you can draw a good heat and pass a bunch of cars starting at the back, which gives you a ton of points. Other times everyone is so even and there’s no passing so you’re doomed for the rest of the night.”
Rilat advanced from ninth to seventh place in a heat race on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg to kick off the Battle of the Groves weekend. He then maneuvered from 10th to seventh in a qualifier before a runner-up result in a B Main earned a spot in the main event.
Rilat powered from 20th to a 14th-place finish, which was the third-most cars passed in the A Main.
“We had a decent car all night,” he said. “It was just tough sledding starting at the back so much.”
The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where once again Rilat started ninth. This time he finished in that position, which relegated him to the back of a B Main. He advanced from 10th to seventh place, but missed a transfer position.
Rilat has a trio of ASCS National Tour races on the schedule this week beginning on Wednesday at Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kan., where he will make his debut. Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., hosts an event on Thursday before I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., showcases a race on Saturday.
“We’ll be at three pretty racy tracks,” he said. “We just need to keep moving forward and hopefully draw a little better.”
