TULSA, Okla. (February 22, 2016) Since the Southwest Region of the American Sprint Car Series began in 2008, only one name has ever made it to the champion’s check, and for Rick Ziehl, taking that streak to nine consecutive begins on Saturday, February 27 at the Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande, Ariz.

“It’s a great accomplishment on any level. Something like that is hard to do,” said Ziehl of winning eight ASCS Southwest titles in a row. “I’d love to get the ninth. It’s something that’s just hard to explain.”

A part of southwest Sprint Car racing since 1990, Rick has amassed 16 career championships since 1995 across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

Taking on the ASCS Southwest Region in the John Ziehl Racing/MVT/Bay Hays/Lucas Oil No. 20z Maxim powered by Wesmar, not much has changed for Ziehl going into this year’s lineup. Looking at the coming season, with new talent coming into the mix from New Mexico and around Arizona, Ziehl commented on going nine-for-nine.

“It makes it tougher for sure, but we’ll just keep concentrating on consistency, and trying to get on the podium every night.”

The second time the Central Arizona Speedway has kicked off the ASCS Southwest Region, Ziehl stood in Victory lane in 2015 with Lorne Wofford and Billy Chester completing the night’s podium. This Saturday’s appearance at the Central Arizona Speedway is one of only two on the 2016 season, with the ASCS Southwest Region also scheduled for April 23, 2016.

Saturday, February 27 at the Central Arizona Speedway is presented by Torco Fuels and includes Pure Stocks, Sport Mods, Bombers, and Mod Lites. The Central Arizona Speedway is located at 512 N 11 Mile Corner Rd. in Casa Grande, Ariz. For more information, log onto http://centralarizonaspeedway.com or call (480) 266-1378.
