RANDY’S FIVE: Windy Hollow Speedway, Benton Speedway

Randy Ward's picks for Windy Hollow and Benton speedways

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each American Sprint Car Series National Tour event? Series Announcer Randy Ward will bring you his five drivers to watch each race week.

This week: Windy Hollow Speedway, July 25, and Benton Speedway, July 26

RANDY’S FIVE:

Jason Martin
Why: Jason sits fourth in the Series standings and has gained some momentum after three straight podium finishes at Batesville and Belleville (twice). However, he had a small setback at Creek County Speedway, where he got upside down and finished 22nd in the Feature. He needs to get back on track in a good way this weekend at Windy Hollow and Benton to make a push on gaining ground back up on the top three in the Series points if he wants to challenge for a second Series title (he is the 2023 champion).

Matt Covington
Why: Matt sits in third on the season and has been super consistent this year with four top-five results in the last five series events. That has been Matt’s story his whole career; he is always in the mix and will get a win here and there, just like he did last time we were in the state of Kentucky back in May when he topped the field at Paducah International Raceway. Is the Bluegrass state his again, we’ll find out tonight and then it’s on to Benton Speedway on Saturday in Missouri.

Landon Britt
Why: Britt is coming off a big win last Saturday with the ASCS Hurricane Super Sprints at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis. That win should have his team rolling into the weekend with confidence and add to that a top-five run last year in the Series stop at Benton Speedway where we go on Saturday, it could be a solid weekend for the No. 10 car.

Ryder LaPlante
Why: With a solid run from 18th to 10th last Friday at Creek County, Ryder continues to show his team can get his race car to maneuver well late in the night. With the Series off last Saturday, the team raced a 305 event close to home and came home victorious for the fourth time this year. Is this the weekend they put together a top five, or even better run, with the American Sprint Car Series? They have two chances for them do so with races on Friday and Saturday.

Sam Hafertepe Jr.
Why: He just keeps winning no matter what style of track we visit (six wins with ASCS this year). And with his experience traveling the country to race on various tracks, Sam may have a slight edge on Friday when the Series visits Owensboro for the first time and everyone is working to find the right set-up. Then, on Saturday the Series moves to Benton, Missouri – a place Sam crashed at one year ago, so he will want to erase that memory and make a new one.

You can follow these drivers and more this weekend at Windy Hollow Speedway and Benton Speedway by getting your tickets at the gate.

If you can’t make it to the track, you can watch every lap live – with Randy Ward – on DIRTVision.
