RANDY’S FIVE: WaKeeney Speedway, El Paso County Raceway

Randy's picks for WaKenney and El Paso County

Curious which drivers you should keep an eye on at each American Sprint Car Series National Tour event? Series Announcer Randy Ward will bring you his five drivers to watch each race week.

This week: WaKenney Speedway, Aug. 15, and El Paso County Raceway, Aug. 16

RANDY’S FIVE:

Jason Martin
Why: He has been creeping towards the top spots in the season standings over the past month, and he sits fourth entering the weekend. With Jason’s track record at WaKeeney Speedway in Kansas, Friday could be a big night for him. He has finished on the podium in the Series’ last three stops at the track, twice in 2022 and once in 2023.

Kyler Johnson
Why: Kyler lives just roughly 20 minutes from the track in WaKeeney, making this the closest track on the schedule to his home in Quinter, KS. Kyler won a flat kart race in WaKeeney in 2018 and has finished on the podium in a 305 on the big track. Can this be the weekend that Kyler puts the 45x on the top step of a ASCS National event, we’ll find out.

Garret Benson
Why: Garret recently took over the Brodix Rookie of the Year points lead and had a career best finish of third at Benton Speedway in his last ASCS outing. We will now find out what kind of poise the 15 year old has as he tries to hold onto fifth in overall standings with others only a few points back looking to overtake him for the coveted top five spot.

Bryan Gossel
Why: Bryan leads the Western Plains points entering the weekend on the strength of a pair of wins at El Paso County Speedway, where the national series will race on Saturday. Gossell will be racing with his son, Austyn, who is in a tight points battle in the national standings, currently sits seventh but only a few back from fifth and only a few ahead of 10th. The Gossel family would love to have a good showing in their home state of Colorado on Saturday.

Adam Trimble
Why: Adam was crowned the Western Plains Champion in 2024 and is trying to claim that again in 2025, currently a few points behind Gossel in that battle. Trimble is solidly in front of the Northern Plains Region points race after winning three features with the regional tour in Wyoming this season. With this weekend being their final shows on the schedule, he should wrap up that title over DJ Brink and Blair Cooper who are also in the top three.
