Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (Oct. 19, 2021) – Gunner Ramey is making his first appearance at the famed COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires this weekend.
The Terry Doogs Racing driver has one night under his belt at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., which hosts the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season finale on Friday and Saturday.
“I’m ready to get going,” he said. “We had a pretty decent run the last time we went there. There will be a lot more cars and a bigger stage this weekend. We’ll go back to our notes and hopefully do what works.”
Ramey produced an 11th-place result during an ASCS National Tour race at the quarter-mile oval in July. It was his second-best run in his limited history with the series.
“There were like 50 cars that night,” he said. “At a track I’ve never been to and with 50-something cars, to battle for a top 10 felt pretty good. We had a fast car. In the feature the track took rubber and we passed some cars and I made my way toward a top 10 so it was a success.”
The Short Track Nationals usually showcases a stout field of 70-plus drivers, making it the second-largest event Ramey will participate in this season.
“There’s so many cars so the margin for error is not very big,” he said. “You have to pass cars and make the most of every situation. You have to be minimal on your mistakes and move forward.
“We want to put it in the show both nights. If we could get a top 10 that’d be pretty cool, too.”
