Inside Line Promotions – WEST PLAINS, Mo. (June 8, 2021) – Gunner Ramey made his first appearance of the season at Legit Speedway Park last Saturday night when he notched his season-best finish of seventh.
The Terry Doogs Racing driver faced off against ASCS Mid-South Region and ASCS Warrior Region competition, finishing fourth in his heat race after starting second.
“I kind of screwed up and got caught up swapping back and forth with the leader in the heat race, which allowed a couple guys to close the gap and get by me,” he said.
Ramey lined up 14th out of the 20 entries in the night’s feature. Passing was at a premium throughout the race, but Ramey found an edge at the halfway point to propel him forward.
“The track was smooth and slick all night, but I found if I put my left-side tires into nearly the infield on corner exit there was some moisture there and that helped me pass cars when it was so tough for all the other drivers to make moves out there,” he said.
Ramey improved upon his starting spot by seven positions – the second most of any driver – to finish seventh.
“I just wish we could have started a little closer to the front because we had a top-five, a top-three car for sure,” he said.
Ramey’s confidence level is rising following Saturday’s run.
“The speed is there, the car is there and the driver is getting better every week,” he said. “If we can continue to put complete races together like this, the top fives and the podiums will come as a result.”
Ramey will head to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., this Saturday night. Four of his nine starts this season have been at the track with a best outing of eighth.
