Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 15, 2019) – Robbie Price charged forward six positions in the A Main to take home a 14th-place finish during the opening night of the Grizzly Nationals last Friday at Gallatin Speedway.
It was originally scheduled to be a two-day Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event, but rain cancelled the second night of racing after showers hit the speedway just before hot laps.
Price began Friday night by drawing the third starting position for heat race action. He finished fourth, which relegated him to the B Main.
“I got into the first turn really well and I got run up the track a bit in the heat race,” he said. “I kind of got freight trained a bit then and I fell back to sixth, but made my way back up to fourth. You never want to have to come from the B Main, but it’s just the way it falls sometimes.”
Price maintained his starting position and he finished second in the B Main to lock himself into the feature event in the 20th starting position.
After an initial red flag at the start, the main event went non-stop and the track took rubber early, which made it difficult to pass. Price stayed the course and ultimately was able to advance six positions to end 14th.
“The track rubbered up pretty early and that makes it hard to pass when you start that far back,” he said. “I kind of just got in line and tried to capitalize when someone made a mistake. But it’s one of those deals where we got in a hole early in the night and we can only blame ourselves.”
Next up for Price is a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., this Friday and Saturday. With a field of competitive drivers and a track that he has never visited before, Price is hoping to start the night off with a good draw and he expects to be in contention at each night’s end.
“I’ve seen some video of Big Sky and it seems pretty racy and I think it fits our program,” he said. “Hopefully we can get a good draw, run well in the heat and get ourselves into the redraw. If we can do that I see no reason why we can’t bring home a top-five finish.”
