Inside Line Promotions – ELDON, Mo. (May 27, 2019) – Robbie Price passed more than a dozen cars during the two Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour A Mains last weekend at Lake Ozark Speedway.
Price rallied from 24th to 18th on Saturday and from 22nd to 15th – the third-most cars passed – on Sunday as he exited the weekend ranked ninth in the ASCS National Tour championship standings.
“I’m pretty disappointed honestly,” he said. “The first night we were decent in the heat and had a mag box go out in the B Main so I had to take a provisional into the main event.”
Price finished sixth in a heat race before the DNF in a B Main forced him to use a provisional to tag the rear of the field in the main event during his debut at the track.
“We just made laps,” he said. “If we started up front we could hang up there, but there was no coming from the back to the front. The track was wide and there was a top and a bottom, but you couldn’t pass a lot. You’d pull down to try to slide somebody and you’d lose so much ground.”
The beginning of Sunday night didn’t start any better as a fifth-place outing in a heat race relegated Price into a B Main. This time he charged from sixth to third place to garner a transfer into the rear of the main event.
“We were better in the B Main,” he said. “I told my crew chief let’s try some stuff and see if it works. I came in from the B Main and said I don’t want to be able to even turn. We were tighter than we’d been all weekend. I was really comfortable in the A Main. It’s one of those deals where you start at the back and there’s not a lot of rallying through the field.”
Price moved forward for the second straight night to post his third top 15 during ASCS National Tour competition this season.
The action resumes this Saturday at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, where Price will make his debut during the opening night of the Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.
“We just need to find some speed,” he said. “We should be a top-five car. We need to find speed and work on it. We’re going to change some stuff this week. We’ll try some different shock packages. We just have to figure something out. We race good in the main events, but we need to be able to pass cars and make smart decisions in the heat race.”
