Price Happy to Put Short Track Nationals in Rearview Mirror

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 7, 2020) – Robbie Price endured a frustrating weekend that saw his night end in a B Main on consecutive evenings during the 33rd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway.

On a track that has continuously been a thorn in the Cobble Hill, B.C., native’s side throughout his racing career, Price placed ninth in a consolation race on Friday and 14th on Saturday during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event that featured more than 75 of the top drivers in the country.

“I don’t know what it is about I-30, but I just can’t seem to get out of my own way at that place,” he said. “Some of it is on me as a driver and some of it is maybe track conditions, but I’m pretty glad I won’t have to go back for another year.”

Price began the night on Friday by advancing three spots in a heat race to finish fifth before gaining two positions in a qualifier to end fifth. He lined up third in a B Main and was leading the race early before he spun in traffic. Price rejoined the field at the back and he passed several cars, but finished short of transferring.

“We were not terrible by any means, but we drew a tough pill and got buried deep in a heat race,” he said. “I was running pretty well in the B Main and got myself to the lead. I just made a bad judgment call and got turned around. It’s 100 percent on me as a driver and I ruined our night. The last thing you should be worrying about as a driver is mental errors and I just need to get better in that situation.”

Saturday night began promisingly with a second-place outing in a heat race followed by an eighth-place finish in a qualifier. He lined up in 10th in a B Main, but he pulled off early when the track took rubber.

“The format doesn’t reward finishing second when you start second and we just need to get better at passing cars,” he said. “I got together with a guy in the qualifier on the second lap and we had to come from the rear. I passed a few cars in the B Main, but by then the track was pretty much toast and we were not going anywhere so I pulled off.”

Price will take this week off from racing and return to action Oct. 16-17 during the 47th annual Winter Nationals with the ASCS National Tour at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

“I really like Devil’s Bowl and after last weekend I think all we can do is go upwards,” he said. “I finished off the season terrible last year and I thought about it all winter long. Hopefully I can bring home some better results and give us something to build on as we look to next year.”
