Inside Line Promotions – EDNA, Texas (April 16, 2019) – Robbie Price picked up some confidence after returning to the 360ci sprint car ranks and earning a runner-up result last Saturday night at Texana Raceway with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“I felt right back at home inside of the 360,” he said. “It really slowed everything down for me and I felt much more in command of the car after running the 410 throughout the early part of the season.”
Price raced his 410ci sprint car on Friday night with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series during the opening night of the Texas Outlaw Nationals at Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.
Friday night began with Price qualifying 21st quickest. A seventh-place result in a heat race was only one position from locking directly into the main event. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem ended the night early in the Last Chance Showdown.
“I haven’t run the 410 much on the big tracks,” Price said. “It’s really hard racing the best in the business weekly. You can be running your heart out and feel like you’re doing so well, but you come and see the times and it’s just not what you expect at all.”
Following the rain out of Saturday’s race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Price and his crew decided to head south for an ASCS Gulf South Region event at Texana Raceway.
Price went into the night looking to regain some confidence behind the wheel of the type of sprint car he is much more familiar with. He maneuvered from sixth to third in a heat race, which earned a spot into the feature redraw. Price then pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.
After running third much of the main a small bobble caused him to cross-up and spin around. This put him to the rear of the field. However, Price climbed back through the field and eventually back into the top five. On the last lap, the top two drivers got into each other, moving the entire field up two positions and putting Price into second as the race came to a conclusion.
“It was a really good night to perform so well and feel so comfortable in the car,” he said. “But I’m still really frustrated. I could have had the win had I not spun the car out, but to come back through a field like this is still pretty stout.”
The second-place finish represents the best result of the season for Price. This Saturday he and the team are traveling to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, to contest the track’s season opener.
“I feel really good about Knoxville,” Price said. “I ran there a couple times last year and had pretty good speed. I’m looking to get my program up to the speed we had there last year and things are looking pretty good.”
The season aboard the 360 is about to go into full swing for Price. After running with the World of Outlaws the last few weeks he has walked away with many valuable lessons he looks to apply to the upcoming ASCS National Tour campaign.
“Sprint car racing is full of ups and downs,” he said. “When there seems to be more downs than ups you have to remember that. You have to know that when you’re down in the dumps that the upside is coming. I think we finally passed our downs and it’s time for the ups.”
