Old School Racing’s Tankersley Wins ASCS Gulf South Season Finale and Championship

Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (Oct. 16, 2018) – Channin Tankersley put an exclamation point on his ASCS Gulf South Region championship by winning the season finale last Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park.

The win was Tankersley’s sixth of the season, which is his most ever in a single season and the most of any driver in an ASCS Gulf South Region season since 2010 according to the ASCS website.

“We just had a really solid year all in all,” the Old School Racing driver said. “I couldn’t be happier to end the season down here with a win. Six wins in a year for as many times as we’ve run, that’s pretty solid. I’m pretty stoked about that.”

The season finale began with Tankersley advancing a position to finish second in a heat race. That earned enough points to make the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 1 to garner the pole position for the 41-lap A Main.

“I had the car really, really tight in the heat,” he said. “We were lucky enough to gain a position and wound up running second. That put us in the redraw. Then we were lucky enough to pull the No. 1 pill. On a track like that track position is everything. It was rough and heavy.

“Ray Allen Kulhanek started on the outside front row. We got going and he got me in the first corner and led the first lap. I led from the second lap on. The track was real choppy from the middle to the top. He was rolling the bottom. We got our momentum going around the top and got by. On a couple of restarts I saw a nose, but once we got going we were pretty solid. I felt like we got better toward the end of the race. That’s always good when you can get faster. We got through traffic really well. That’s all you can ask for.”

Tankersley clinched his third ASCS Gulf South Region championship in the last five years just by showing up to the season finale. He is only the second driver in series history to win at least three championships.
