Mid-Race Crash Collects Carney At Texas Motor Speedway

EL PASO, Texas (April 12, 2017) Eyeing a solid finish on Saturday night at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, John Carney II had his weekend turned upside down as the Lubbock Wrecker No. 11x was collected in a crash that sent the Texas native flipping into the fence in turn-four.

“First off, I have to thank Scott Brown for giving me good equipment and a safe car. The crash was just a chain reaction deal. I was setting the guy up in front of me for a slide job before I saw the crash, and I tried to back off, but he panicked and when he did, I had nowhere to go and climbed his left rear,” said John of the incident.

“My biggest thing was to avoid the car sitting in the middle of the track, and I thought I was okay but it just didn’t work out that way, but that’s part of having to start in the back and work to the front is you can get caught up in someone else’s mess.”

The weekend wasn’t all bad for John however as the team walked away with a 12th place showing in Friday’s feature event.

“Friday was tough because the track was narrow. We tried a hard right rear and it just took too long for the tire to fire and take off, but once it did it worked really well, we just didn’t have the chance to move forward by that point, but the car was good and we were in the hunt and to race in front of that kind of crowd, with TV and everything that was going on, it made it a fun weekend. Just wish our interviewer on MAVTV would have been for winning,” chuckled Carney.

With a new trailer in the shop, the team is using this week to retool and outfit the new rig for the remainder of the season. Racing is not out of the question this weekend, but the team is still looking at its options before heading out. Otherwise the next outing is scheduled to be the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan. on April 21 and 22.
