Inside Line Promotions – MAGRATH, Alberta, Canada (May 15, 2018) – Cody Masse is excited to announce his plans to follow the ASCS Frontier Region in 2018, a goal the 21-year-old has been building on the last several years.
“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to run full time with the ASCS Frontier Region,” he said. “It’s something I’ve wanted to do and something we’ve been working toward for the last few years. It’s always been our goal.
“Unfortunately, the schedule the last couple of years got kind of split up with a lot of races in Wyoming and Idaho – places we weren’t prepared to travel to. But now the schedule’s come back around and there’s really only two big weekends of travel for us to Rapid City, S.D. I think that given where our team is and our progress and where the series is now makes it the perfect time for us to make the move to try and run the full schedule this year.”
Masse began racing sprint cars at the age of 14-years-old in 2011 near his home.
“We raced one year in the sportsman sprint car class and then the track closed,” he said. “We sat out the following year because we weren’t prepared to travel. In 2013 we began going to Great Falls (Mont.) and raced against the ASCS engines with our sportsman engine before we upgraded to an ASCS engine in 2015. That year we also raced in Belgrade and Billings and started to pick up some top 10s.
“We traveled more in 2016 and competed in 16 races last year with ASCS, NSA and special shows. Our highlight of the year was finishing fourth in a 410 race with our 360 engine in Saskatchewan. We also qualified for our first ASCS National Tour feature in Belgrade.”
While Masse has no definite goals for 2018, there are some achievements he is striving toward.
“I’d like to make the show at the Grizzly Nationals again this year,” he said. “I’d also like to finish at least in the top 10 in points in the Frontier Region, if not the top five. I’d like to become a consistent top-10 driver who can knock of a top five once in a while. I’m just looking for continued progress and showing more speed than we did last year.”
Masse’s season is scheduled to kick off this weekend with a two-day event at Electric City Speedway on Friday and Saturday. The event is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Frontier Region and NSA Series.
“I’ve raced every race there since 2013,” he said. “It’s a really fun, old-school track. It’s 3/10-mile and unique in shape, which keeps you on your toes. It should draw a good car count. They always do a great job with the track prep and it’s a great track to kick off the season.”
As always in racing, there are many others who are integral for allowing Masse to accomplish his endeavor.
“I’m really thankful to my bosses, Jay Lachance and Allyssa Zoeteman, for allowing me the time off from work that I need to go racing,” Masse said. “I really appreciate them. I also want to thank my crew – Ken Allen, Ann Allen, Ron Krausher, Murray Vickers and my father, George Masse. I really appreciate the hard work they put in over the winter to make this possible.”
