Inside Line Promotions – LONGDALE, Okla. (Sept. 5, 2023) – Jordon Mallett produced two more top 10s last weekend during ASCS National Tour competition in Oklahoma.
His 19 top 10s with the series is currently tied for second and Mallett ranks third in the championship standings with 10 races remaining this season.
The weekend kicked off on Friday at Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, where Mallett made his debut. He qualified second quickest in his group and ended fifth in a heat race to rank 12th in event points. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the A Main.
“They’ve outdone themselves,” he said. “It’s an awesome facility that is top notch. The fans were awesome and I hope to go back there.
“We were good in hot laps and in qualifying, but we were terrible in the heat race. I thought we were good enough in qualifying that it’d allow us to try some stuff in the heat race and it threw the balance off the car. I didn’t like it at all and we didn’t have a good heat race. In the feature we were pretty good early on. The rubber came in and it became about tire conservation. I probably conserved too much early and should have kept clawing on.”
Mallett advanced a handful of positions to place eighth.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Longdale Speedway, where Mallett timed in fourth quickest in his group before he won a heat race. He ranked sixth in points to start the feature sixth.
“We were okay in qualifying, but not where I wanted to be,” he said. “We were okay in the heat race and won it, but I wasn’t pleased with the balance of the car. I ran every lap thinking I was going to be passed.
“I felt we made really good changes and the car would be good when we were able to buzz the car around before the feature started. We went green and a guy in front spun out in front of the field. I was committed to running the top. I turned to go down below him and he came across the track and I still got him with the right rear. It punctured the tire so I had to go to the work area. We got another tire put on and restarted at the back of the field. We did drive back up to 10th, but it was dusty and hard to see in the back. The track was hard to pass and make gains on and we played catchup the whole race from that accident on Lap 1.”
Mallett will take this weekend off before facing ASCS National Tour races the following week. It begins on Sept. 12 at Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer, Iowa, with Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., hosting the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial Sept. 14-16.
