CONCORD, N.C. (April 17, 2024): Rolling into his third season with the American Sprint Car Series, third-generation driver Kyler Johnson will again wheel the family-owned Double Diamond Farms No. 45x to battle the National Tour.
The goal is simple: collect wins.
“Running the National Tour the past two seasons we have learned a lot about ourselves,” reflected Johnson, who finished sixth in tour standings in 2023.
“In 2022, we had speed; we just took ourselves out of too many races by crashing. Then, in 2023, it seemed that we couldn’t get an engine to stay together, forcing too many DNFs, so our goals now have definitely changed. Back when we started the tour, we just wanted to get better each night. That then turned into wanting to get podiums. Now we have a couple of podiums, and going into ‘24, we’re chasing a win.”
Considering issues during the 2023 season, the team has switched engine builders to Kansas-based Myers Racing Engines.
With a career-best finish of third at 81 Speedway on June 17, 2023, Johnson has collected four top-five and 17 top-10 finishes over the past two seasons in 53 feature starts. Starting in go-karts when he was 10 years old, the 2024 season marks the sixth year behind the wheel of a Sprint Car for the now 20-year-old driver.
