Hill’s Weekend Dampened by Slow Start and Mother Nature

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 1, 2019) – A slow start in her heat race proved to eventually be too great of an obstacle for Alex Hill to overcome Friday night at I-30 Speedway during a show sanctioned by the ASCS Mid-South, ASCS Sooner and ASCS Lone Star Regions.

Hill drew the sixth starting position in her eight-car heat race on the first night of the scheduled two-night event at the quarter-mile oval.

“I just didn’t get a good start and dropped back a couple of spots,” she said. “Doing well on starts is something I’ve struggled with and I really need to improve on that. The track in the heat race was tacky and hammer-down. It’s really difficult to pass on a one-lane track. Once we got going, I was kind of stuck where I was at.”

Her eighth-place finish in the heat race forced her to start deep in the B Main in the ninth starting spot.

“We were fast in the B Main,” she said. “I drove harder like I needed to and we were able to move up some spots. Unfortunately, we just ran out of laps. The field had gotten kind of strung out. We needed a caution to get everyone back together and to give us an opportunity to pass some more cars, but we never got it.”

Hill finished sixth in the race, three spots short of a transfer into the A Main.
Any chance of improvement the following night was washed away when Saturday’s race was canceled due to rain.

“It was really disappointing not to be able to race on Saturday,” she said. “My crew chief wanted to run the USCS race, but that was two hours away. I just couldn’t do that since my flight was at 6 a.m. Sunday. But that was eventually canceled, too, so it didn’t matter.”

The next scheduled racing action for Hill will be in a 410ci winged sprint car on April 19 at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., although there’s a chance she might compete in a 360 before then.

“I’m excited to be racing a 410 at Lernerville on April 19,” she said. “I’d like to race again before then and there’s a chance we might race the weekend before that, but we definitely plan to race at Lernerville.”
