Inside Line Promotions – SIX NATIONS, Ontario, Canada (Oct. 2, 2018) – Alex Hill is looking forward to tackling the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals this weekend at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., with the ASCS Mid-South Region.
Hill suffered misfortune during the event for two consecutive years prior to not competing in it last year.
“We had some tough luck our previous two times there,” the 18-year-old said. “I didn’t race it last year because it was my first year at college.
“I got upside down twice there. One night was when the track was really rough and it was in the same spot a lot of cars flipped. The other time was when another car clipped my front end hard. We’re hoping things will go better for us this year.”
Given the expected car count and competition level, Hill’s hope is to qualify for Saturday night’s main event.
“It’s a big race with a lot of strong competition so I think qualifying for the A Main on Saturday would be a big accomplishment for us,” she said.
Hill enjoyed a rare weekend without extensive travel last weekend. She usually travels by air from Los Angeles to wherever she is racing that weekend, often three time zones away.
“I have a pretty good class schedule so it doesn’t usually affect my classes too much,” she said. “My last class of the week ends on Thursday at noon and I don’t have to be back for my first class until 6 p.m. on Monday.”
Hill will continue racing nearly every weekend through October.
“We had planned to race every weekend in October until they canceled the 360 race at Eldora on Oct. 13,” she said. “But I still plan to go to Eldora that weekend to watch (teammate) Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) race with the Outlaws.”
