Inside Line Promotions – OSBORN, Mo. (April 29, 2019) – Alex Hill displayed speed in spite of making first-time visits to a pair of tracks last week as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour kicked off its 2019 season.
Hill began the new season on Thursday with her maiden visit to Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., where she drew the eighth starting spot in her heat race.
“We were pretty fast at Eagle for our first time there, but the draw hurt us,” she said. “We ran with most of the cars in the heat race, but we weren’t able to move forward because it was difficult to pass.”
Hill’s eighth-place heat race finish forced her to start seventh in a B Main.
“We were able to move up a bit in the B Main, but we just ran out of time to make the transfer to the A Main,” said Hill, who eventually finished fifth. “We used a provisional to start the A Main, but I pulled in once I got lapped about halfway through the race.”
Her luck changed in different ways the following night when she made her first visit to U.S. 36 Raceway. After drawing the pole position for a heat race, Hill was unable to compete in hot laps.
“We had mechanical issues right away with our car,” she said. “We weren’t able to get them fixed in time for hot laps, but we were ready for our heat race.
“I dropped back a couple of spots the first lap or two and then held my position for the rest of the race. We were pretty happy with that since it was my first laps on the track and the competition in our heat was strong.”
Hill finished 17th in the night’s main event.
“I was able to roll the bottom pretty well in the feature,” she said. “There were about four or five of us racing together until there was a caution with about 13 laps to go. I felt that we would have finished better without the caution.”
Hill is looking forward to competing this weekend in Pennsylvania, where she was fast during her first appearance there last year. She is slated to tackle ASCS National Tour races on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg and on Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove.
“I’m excited to go back to Pennsylvania,” she said. “Last year at Williams Grove I think we were second fastest in hot laps, but I crashed in my qualifier. We hurt our good engine in that crash and then had some damage the following night at Selinsgrove. But I enjoyed the tracks there and I’m looking forward to returning.”
