Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 12, 2021) – Alex Hill produced a solid weekend at the Grizzly Nationals, garnering a pair of top-10 runs at Gallatin Speedway during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader.
“We had a pretty good weekend,” she said. “We finished in the top 10 both nights and moved forward most of the time, so that was good.”
The Hill’s Racing Team driver opened the action on Friday with a runner-up result in her heat race after starting third.
“We got a good start in the heat race and actually challenged for the lead a bit before settling for second,” she said. “That gave us a good starting spot (seventh) in the feature.
“We tried a new setup on Friday and it worked well in the heat race, but we were a little tight in the feature. I lost a couple of spots during the first part of the race before just kind of settling into ninth, which was where we finished.”
The following night Hill was able to once again advance in her heat race, driving from fifth to fourth, which secured her a 10th-place starting position into the main event.
“We actually had a bad start in the heat race when the car in front of us didn’t take off at the start,” she said. “That dropped us back a spot or two, but we were able to get that back later and then move up another position to finish fourth.”
Hill was able to move forward in the main event and eventually finished ninth for the second consecutive night. It was her sixth top 10 of the season, which is the most she’s ever recorded in a sprint car season on the road.
“We had a good car in the feature,” she said. “We were able to get up to eighth until there was a caution with about 10 laps to go. I lost a spot on the restart and then the track took rubber, so everyone ran single file around the bottom after that.”
Up next for Hill will be a visit to U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., on Friday for an ASCS National Tour show before competition at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday.
