Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 22, 2021) – Alex Hill produced her career-best Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial outing at Lucas Oil Speedway last weekend.
The Hill’s Racing Team driver qualified for Saturday night’s A Main among of field of nearly 70 competitors for the first time during one of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s marquee events.
“We had a really good weekend, especially after taking a break from racing for about a month,” she said. “We made the A Main two nights out of three in a big field of cars. We made Saturday night’s A Main for the first time at that race. Daryl, Pete, Ronnie and Nick worked hard and gave me a fast car each night.”
Hill’s weekend got off to a solid start on Thursday when she won her heat race and finished second in her qualifier.
“We had a really fast car in our heat and qualifier,” she said. “I was able to get the lead right away in the heat race and win. I got a good start in the qualifier and finished second after starting fifth.
“We weren’t quite as fast in the feature. The track was really slick and we missed the setup a little bit. We started sixth and finished 13th. It was still a good night, overall.”
Hill was unable to overcome a poor draw that made for a challenging night on Friday.
“We started seventh in the heat race and weren’t able to move forward,” she said. “We were able to pass cars in the qualifier and B Main, but we just started too far back to make the transfer.”
Hill maneuvered from ninth to sixth in a qualifier and from sixth to fifth in a B Main.
Although she didn’t quite lock into a Saturday night A Main starting spot following the first two nights, Hill lined up third in her Last Chance Qualifier on Saturday. That race took the top-two finishers to the A Main and Hill made the most of it.
“We had a really good start and were able to stick the bottom in turns one and two, which put us in second right away,” she said. “We were able to hold that spot the rest of the race and qualify for the A Main.
“We started 15th in the A Main. Our car was just a little too tight and I faded toward the end. I pulled in after I was lapped. There’s no sense in being out there in a big race if you’ve been lapped and you’re not real fast.”
Hill, who was credited with a 22nd-place result, will close out her racing season at the ASCS National Tour’s season finale hosted by Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, Oct. 15-16.
