Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 24, 2019) – A career-best finish at Lucas Oil Speedway highlighted Alex Hill’s weekend during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“We had a pretty decent weekend,” she said. “The first night didn’t end so well, but we made some fast laps and made the A Main one night. We were fast the first two nights and passed cars in about every race.”
Hill qualified for her first A Main at Lucas Oil Speedway on Friday night, when she finished 15th among a stout field of approximately 70 drivers after winning her heat race and finishing fifth in a qualifier.
“We drew well and won the heat race, so that got our night off to a good start,” she said. “Unfortunately, once the feature started it was pretty much a race to get to the bottom and on the start I had nowhere to go. We had a decent car. It was just hard to pass.”
Hill charged from ninth to fourth in her heat race on Thursday night before finishing fifth in her qualifier, which put her on the pole for the 18-car B Main.
“I had a bad start in the B Main and dropped back to about fourth or fifth,” she said. “While I was in a close race for third with a couple of other cars, another car and I got together and I had to restart at the back. I was able to move back up to eighth by the finish. But after the checkered flag, another car made contact with ours and I flipped. One of those racing deals, but a bad way to end the night.”
The event’s final night saw Hill finish sixth in a Last Chance Qualifier before closing out her weekend with a sixth-place finish in a B Main.
“Saturday night went okay,” she said. “It was just tough to pass after all the rain. The track was pretty much hammer-down for us.”
Hill will take this weekend off before competing in the 32nd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 4-5.
