Inside Line Promotions – SAPULPA, Okla. (Oct. 31, 2018) – Alex Hill gained valuable experience on a tricky track and she celebrated her teammate’s championship last Saturday at Creek County Speedway during the John Christner Trucking Fall Fling with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.
The 18-year-old ASCS National Tour Rookie of the Year contender began her final night of racing for the year slotted in the sixth starting position of her heat race at the bullring.
“I got a good start and was able to move up to fourth, but I wasn’t sticking the exit very well,” she said. “My car didn’t have much grip. Then a couple of cars got by me before I moved around and was able to improve my exit. My car was good. It was just some mistakes on the part of the driver.”
Hill’s finish placed her in the ninth starting spot in one of three B Mains, which were run due to the stout, 61-car field.
“I had a pretty good start in that race, too,” she said. “I think we were up to about fourth at one point. But then there was a restart we didn’t need. The track eventually went from the bottom to the top. I was running the bottom and got passed by a couple of cars. Then I moved to the top, but the car was a little too tight to run well up there.”
While Hill finished the evening ninth in a B Main, she was happy to join her first-year Hill’s Racing teammate Sam Hafertepe Jr. in celebration following his feature win and third ASCS National Tour title.
“It was awesome,” she said. “I’m really happy for Sam and his team and for my parents, of course. My dad really loves this sport and it was nice to see it finally pay off for him. It was really cool.”
Also of significance, Hill became only the fourth woman in the history of the ASCS National Tour to complete the full season.
