CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (Sept 8th, 2021) Matt Covington came home with a 4th place finish, earning the Hard Charger award this past Sunday night aboard his Triple X/Shark Racing Engines mount with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Lake Ozark Speedway.
Matt started off the night finishing 5th in the heat after starting 7th. The results narrowly squeaked him into the feature in the 16th starting position.
From the drop of the green, Covington worked his A-Rock Materials/Loose Change machine to the front, breaking into the top-10 after only a handful of laps. With a fast race car, Covington navigated the rough track and was able to close in the top-5 by the midway race point. Making it to 3rd at one point, he ultimately had to settle for a side-by-side photo finish for 4th after encountering front-end issues in the closing laps. This effort earned Covington the Hard Charger award for gaining 12 positions during the feature.
“Sunday night was a good run for us and another solid top-5,” stated Covington. “It was good to be able to move forward in the feature and get the hard charger. After the rainout on Saturday, the track was just narrow, rough, and fast in the heats. So I wasn’t able to earn more passing points. And starting that far back in the feature, I knew I didn’t have a lot of time to waste. I think we could have held the podium if it weren’t for the mechanical issues late in the race. But since Knoxville we’ve been back to form and up front, earning a podium at Wakeeny the other night. Matt Howard has been working hard and we are ready for I-80 this weekend, which has been a good track for us if we can get a little luck to go with it.”
Up next for Matt and the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour is the Midwest Brawl at I-80 Speedway this Friday, and Saturday.
