Matt Covington Racing- Glenpool, Ok. (May 31st, 2023) Matt Covington came home with a 6th, 8th, and 12th place finish this past Memorial Day weekend, with the highlight being the KSE Hard Charger and 6th place finish on Friday. The effort was during the first night of the three-day race weekend with the ASCS National Tour at Lakeside, followed by Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.
Besides the 6th place finish and hard charger Friday night, the rest of the weekend was full of ups and downs. Sunday night had the potential to be a solid top-5, but a late unnecessary incident in the closing laps derailed a top-5 run while running fourth.
“Friday night was a good run for us after starting 19th and getting to 6th,” stated Covington. “It was good to be able to move forward in the feature and get the hard charger. We just missed it early in the night and had to fight back. Saturday we were just average and didn’t have the speed we needed. My good friend Chad Cypert came down and helped us Sunday and I was really happy with how we rebounded and the speed he was able to find with the car. Thanks to him, I think we hit on something and even when the track was abrasive late, we were still moving forward. It was disappointing to get taken out late in those closing laps to derail the run we had going, but all we can do is re-group and go after it again this weekend.”
Up next for Matt and the American Sprint Car Series National Tour is the Mickey Walker Classic at Outlaw Motor Speedway on Friday and then Caney Valley on Saturday.
