Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 30, 2015) – Brandon Hanks earned a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend and more importantly found the problem that had been plaguing the David Smith Racing team.

“We had a good weekend,” he said. “We found out the torque tube was hitting the yoke on the back of the engine and wouldn’t let the car get down on the race track. We’re lucky it didn’t tear anything up.”

The team was able to fix the problem and cap the weekend with a top-five result on Saturday at I-30 Speedway with the USCS Series.

Hanks opened the night by winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. He ranked fifth in overall points, but the feature inversion was a four so that lined Hanks up on the inside of the third row.

“I’ve never seen I-30 rough like that,” he said. “The fastest way around was to go as hard as you could in on the top and turn the car down and go straight across the ruts. That was what was fun about it. It was cowboy up and it was fast. I enjoyed it like that.”

Hanks quickly maneuvered into fourth place and he maintained that position until the checkered flag was waved. It marked his fifth top five of the season.

The weekend began on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.

“The track all night long was a double-edged sword,” he said. “One end was slick from top to bottom and the other end was hooked up. I’ve never seen that. It was like two totally different race tracks.”

Hanks lined up on the outside of the seventh row for the feature after he finished where he started – fifth – in a heat race.

“In the feature the hooked up end slicked off and took rubber before the other end did,” he said. “I never even found rubber in turns three and four, but in turns one and two it took rubber and was fast. Once it did that it was really hard to pass. We ended up passing more cars on the start and restarts.”

Hanks maneuvered from 14th to post an eighth-place result, which earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
