Inside Line Promotions – WILLIS, Texas (April 6, 2016) – Brandon Hanks recovered from a slow start to the night last Saturday at Gator Motorplex, where he garnered his fifth top-10 finish of the season.
“We struggled all night trying to get the car where it needed to be,” he said. “The car was never bad, but it wasn’t good enough. In the heat race I drew in the back and on a short quarter-mile track it’s hard to draw in the back and go forward when your car isn’t right.”
Hanks advanced from fifth to fourth place during the ASCS Gulf South Region heat race, which relegated him to the B Main.
“We had to run the B Main and we got it a whole lot better, but it still wasn’t where it needed to be,” he said. “When I got to lapped traffic I wasn’t able to maneuver like I needed and two cars got by.”
Hanks placed third in the consolation race to transfer into the 17th starting position for the main event.
“We were pretty good,” he said. “We had a fast car and we were passing cars. I was able to run the top or bottom. We were making our way through the field little by little. We ran the top most of the race and when everybody was fighting for the bottom we could roll around them. We finally got it figured out. Some guys up front had some misfortune, too.”
Hanks charged from 17th to earn a seventh-place result.
He is slated to return to action this Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla., and Saturday at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, with the ASCS Red River Region.
“Creek County is one of my favorite race tracks,” he said. “We finished third there twice last year. We also raced at Superbowl once last year and had made our way into the top 10 when one of the rockers came off so we were running on seven cylinders.”
