Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Aug. 29, 2022) – Derek Hagar will pilot both a 410ci and 360ci winged sprint car this weekend for the first time in his career.
Hagar has experience racing in both divisions, but the Fall Sprint and Midget Nationals this Saturday and Sunday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., presents the first opportunity to compete in both classes each night. The 410s will be sanctioned by the POWRi Outlaw 410 Sprint League and the 360s by the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“It’s going to be fun and I think it’ll be good with being in both of my cars,” he said. “I’m familiar with it and know what equipment I’m getting in.”
Hagar has recorded multiple top 10s at Lake Ozark Speedway during four of the last five years, including a victory in 2020.
“We won a $5,000-to-win ASCS show there a couple of years ago,” he said. “We’d run third at the event in the past and then ran second in 2018 to Sammy (Swindell) before we were able to come out on top.
“We have a good track record there. Last year we ran the All Stars show. We started mid-pack and got up to the top five. We had an incident and restarted at the back and nearly got back to the top 10. We have pretty high expectations and hopefully we can add a couple more wins this weekend.”
Hagar recently reached the double-digits victory mark for the first time since 2016 thanks to a USCS Series triumph at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., on Aug. 20.
“It’s been a good year,” he said. “We’re racing the ASCS Mid-South Region for points and we had a big enough lead in it we were able to skip the race last weekend to take a family vacation. That series has some good race tracks for us coming up so hopefully we can win a couple more races and get up to 14 or 15 wins by the end of this year.”
