Gulf South Features Holiday Tripleheader!

Cody Morris, Tulsa, Oklahoma (5-21-2012) – Boasting the fullest schedule on the ASCS Regional block, the Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region will chase down a Memorial Holiday Weekend tripleheader in that will mark the halfway point of the 26 race campaign at the conclusion of the weekend.

The Gulf South action gets underway Friday, May 25th at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas. The event will feature the third of six Gulf South events aboard the semi-banked 3/8 mile oval. Knoxville, Iowa invader Wayne Johnson sped to victory in both GTRP contests this season, with the latest an April 13th triumph over a co-sanctioned battle between the Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by MavTV.

The ASCS Gulf South pilots will head further inland for a Saturday night stop at the Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas. The midway match of the Gulf South tripleheader will mark the first series’ visit to Gator since the inaugural Nolan Wren Memorial on March 31st won by Clute, Texas gasser Aaron Reutzel.

Saturday’s event also marks the second of three Gulf South visit to the Gator Motorplex of the 2012 campaign, with only a Labor Day Weekend matchup ahead on September 1st.

The holiday weekend tripleheader of Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South action will stage its’ final performance on Sunday night, May 27th at South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi, Texas. It will be the first ever ASCS visit to South Texas Speedway and the only Gulf South visit to Corpus Christi this season.

Danbury, Texas native Ray Allen Kulhanek has claimed the last two ASCS Gulf South titles and is positioning himself for a third as he maintains an 86 point advantage over Killeen, Texas gasser Michael McNeil. A first time ASCS winner at the inaugural ASCS event at his hometown track in Killeen, McNeil holds a scant 6 point advantage over former ASCS Gulf South champ Brandon Berryman for top challenger status.

Recently announced sponsorship has increased the winners purse for the tripleheader to $2,000 to win each night, as well as $1,000 to any driver that can sweep the tripleheader or $500 to the team that can take tackle two of the three night’s of action.

2012 Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region point standings:

The 2012 season marks the 21st year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to dozens of different tracks throughout the nation and into Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by MavTV, ASCS also consists of eleven different Regions throughout the nation.
