Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 14, 2021) – Tyler Driever captured his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour top-10 result last Saturday during the Grizzly Nationals finale at Gallatin Speedway.
The doubleheader featured a pair of career-best outings for Driever, who also garnered an 11th-place result during the opener last Friday.
“We’ve had a struggle with pill draws,” he said. “The first night we pulled the No. 2 so we were pretty excited about that. I started pole of the heat race with Logan Forler to the outside of me. He got me on the start and we ran second.”
The runner-up result advanced Driever into the feature redraw. He pulled the highest number – eight – to line up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.
“I struggled really bad on the start,” he said. “I’d never been in an A Main with the national caliber drivers. Once the green flag dropped they went and it was like four wide on the start. I was overdriving the car and spun out. I went all the way to the back. Then I drove from around 22nd to 11th. We got a grasp of what to do and who we are racing against.”
The strong rebound added confidence for Driever heading into the finale on Saturday.
“I drew the No. 6, which was great, so I started pole again in our heat race,” he said. “The outside guy got me on the start. The bottom was definitely not where you wanted to be. The top was really fast.”
Driever placed third in his heat race to earn the 12th starting spot in the main event. He continued to move forward en route to an eighth-place outing.
“The track rubbered up super quick, but it was fun,” he said. “It was a good experience racing against those drivers and seeing how aggressive they are. It’s a pretty good confidence booster. A top 10 with the national guys makes us feel good.”
Driever will take this weekend off before resuming competition July 23-24 at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., with the ASCS Frontier Region.
“I think the aggressiveness that those national drivers showed me will help me,” he said. “They go on the first lap. There’s no hanging around. It’s about passing as many cars as you can. I think seeing that aggressiveness will help me later on in the ASCS Frontier Region races.”
