Andrew Kunas – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 24, 2021) At just 18 years old, Idaho’s Tyler Driever drove like a veteran and put on a dominating performance, scoring his first career sprint car main event win in Saturday’s ASCS Frontier Region event at Big Sky Speedway.
Driever led every lap of the Big Sky 360 Nationals presented by Kirkness Roofing, which went caution-free. Never challenged for the lead, his lead at times approaching five seconds over his pursuers and after getting into traffic there was almost always at least one or two cars between himself and the rest of the field.
Driever was quick to be congratulated by his fellow competitors and track staff on career win number one. Trever Kirkland of Helena, Montana started fifth and finished in the runner-up spot for the second time in as many nights, turning his season around in the Kirkland Racing No. 37 Shark-powered Triple X. Outside front row starter Mindy McCune of Billings turned in her best finish of the season, taking third place in her No. 11 Kass Kickin’-powered J&J.
Damon McCune took fourth in the Pirate Racing No. 77 GAM-powered Fabtech and Friday night winner Phil Dietz finished fifth in the Dietz Racing No. 72 Wesmar-powered Maxim. Joe Perry, Wermling, James Setters, Michael Bingham and Trevor Plambeck rounded out the top ten in the main event. Heat races earlier in the evening were won by Perry, Setters and Kirkland.
The 2021 season is the 30th year of competition for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
